We all know that it's Infinity Ward's turn to launch a new Call of Duty and the latest message from Communications Manager at Infinity Ward Ashton Williams suggests it will be a sequel to 2013's Ghosts...

According to Charlie INTEL (which correctly leaked the single-player-less Call of Duty: Black Ops IV last year), Infinity Ward is currently working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 that would be released this year, featuring a proper single-player campaign, alongside a brand new customary COD Multiplayer experience, and the return of the beloved Zombie mode. Charlie INTEL's sources also said that a COD: BOIV-like Battle Royale was being discussed for MW4, but at that point, it was merely discussions.

Communications Manager at Infinity Ward Ashton Williams has seemingly decided to stir the pot and has posted a short gif on Twitter focused on a sinister-looking skull with glowing eyes. The gif could mean many things, including the possible return of Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley, one of the most memorable characters in the saga that died nearly ten years ago in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The other possibility is that Williams is teasing a sequel to COD: Ghosts, as that Infinity Ward game also featured the titular squad of "Masked Warriors." There's also a third option, as the studio’s two previous COD games, Ghosts and Infinite Warfare have been some of the most poorly received titles in the franchise, and continuing Ghost's storyline would arguably make less sense than Modern Warfare 3's. As a reminder, COD: MW3 was released in 2011 as the biggest entertainment launch of the year.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is an extraordinary step forward for one of the largest entertainment franchises of all-time. This new chapter in the Call of Duty franchise features a new dynamic where players are on the side of a crippled nation fighting not for freedom, or liberty, but simply to survive. Fueling this all new Call of Duty experience, the franchise's new next-gen engine delivers stunning levels of immersion and performance, all while maintaining the speed and fluidity of 60 frames-per-second across all platforms.

Call of Duty: Ghosts released in 2013 for X360, PS3, PC, and Wii U, and was a PS4 and XO launch title.
