Two weeks ago, Epic
enabled Glider re-deployment across all of
Fortnite's game modes, allowing players to pull out their glider at any time as long as they were in mid-air and greater than 10 meters up.
After two weeks of testing, Epic has announced they will be disabling Glider re-deployment in all default modes starting with the upcoming update v6.30. The feature will still remain in the larger team modes like Soaring 50s and Disco Domination, as well as the Playground.
Epic offered a brief explanation for the reasoning behind their decision to remove the feature, stating:
"We did not live up to expectations of quickly iterating on the mechanic and communicating plans."
Epic had been testing Glider re-deployment for two weeks, gathering player feedback at the same time. There has been mixed reception towards the feature which dramatically impacted the game's meta and playstyle. While some players enjoyed the ease at which they were able to travel across the map, others complained that it removed any fear of fall damage from building too high off the ground since you could just deploy your glider. Additionally, in Duos or Squads, the ability for teams to close the gap so quickly meant reviving downed teammates was incredibly difficult.
Epic has not yet announced with update v6.30 will drop, but it's expected to arrive sometime this week.
