Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been a massive hit since the game was released in March of this year. Sales have skyrocketed worldwide, and players see themselves passing some time in the game during lockdowns; the perfect distraction, some might say.

With an estimated 5 million copies sold within its launch week, Animal Crossing: New Horizons established itself as one of the best-selling games on the Nintendo Switch this year; information further corroborated by Nintendo itself, who revealed that the game had actually sold over 11 million copies as of the 31st of March.

Those numbers in sales had managed to keep Animal Crossing: New Horizons as the best-selling title on the North American Nintendo Switch eShop; that is, until just recently. New information has revealed that another game has managed to dethrone Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

According to information revealed by independent video game analyst Benji Sales, Mojang Studios' recently released Minecraft Dungeons is now the best-selling video game on the Nintendo Switch eShop, after Animal Crossing: New Horizons was able to hold the title for a solid 3 months.

Since this information actually comes from the North American Nintendo eShop itself, we still don't know exactly how many copies of either title have been sold; considering that the Nintendo seems to update the Best Sellers list on the Switch's eShop weekly, and Minecraft Dungeons ws just released on the 26th of May.

Mojang Studios has already announced that even more content for Minecraft Dungeons is on the way, so that will definitely be positively impacting sales in the near future. Hopefully the developers reveal soon the number of both digital and physical units sold to get the bigger picture.
