Hollow Knight is a 2D
metroidvania—developed by independent studio Team Cherry—that focuses on exploration and action, where players need to explore a vast ruined kingdom in one huge maze-like open world.
During this year's E3, Hollow Knight was given a brand new trailer for the Nintendo Switch, becoming available on that very same day. Not two weeks later,
the game had managed to sell an impressive 250,000 units on that console alone, but what we didn't know was that the game had reached another important milestone during the E3.
In a recent interview with
Kotaku, Ari Gibson—one of the developers for the game—mentioned that a huge part of Hollow Knight's success is owed to PC players who have supported the game since its release in February of 2017 "
with the game having now sold over 1 million copies for Windows, Mac & Linux". This milestone was reached 1 day before the game was released on the Nintendo Switch.
"
We've never publicly mentioned hitting the million mark on PC, so that is another big milestone! We hit that 3 weeks ago and it kinda flew under our radar because of the madness around E3/Switch launch", Ari told Kotaku.
Hollow Knight has managed to sell an impressive 1.25 million units across all available platforms. While Team Cherry has not officially announced a PlayStation 4, or Xbox One port of the game, we can only imagine how much more the game could sell given how well it's done since its release.
An epic action adventure through a vast ruined kingdom of insects and heroes. Explore twisting caverns, battle tainted creatures and befriend bizarre bugs, all in a classic, hand-drawn 2D style.
Hollow Knight is available for the Nintendo Switch, Windows, Linux, and macOS.
