Dead Cells is an indie 2D sidescroller with rogue-lite elements, fast-paced souls-like combat, and beautiful pixel art by independent studio Motion Twin based in France. The game saw its original release in May 2017 on Steam via Early Access, but it was later announced that the game would release for consoles in August of 2018.
Back in May, we also learnt that
Dead Cells was getting a physical release for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch but we didn't get an official release date until now with the game's launch trailer.
Dead Cells will be releasing this
7th of August, across all platforms, as the game has been currently made available for pre-orders.
Given the game's nature,
Dead Cells will see players exploring a huge ever-changing castle, fighting very powerful enemies, and trying to stay alive for as long as they can as the game features absolutely no checkpoints—much like the
souls games it's drawing inspiration from—making it a proper challenge for fans of the genre.

You grew up with the roguelikes, witnessed the rise of the roguelites and even the birth of the roguelite-lites? We'd now like to present for your consideration our RogueVania, the illegitimate child of a modern Roguelite (Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, Spelunky, etc.) and an old-school MetroidVania (Castlevania: SotN and its ilk).
Dead Cells will be available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One on the 7th of August.
