Archetype Entertainment has locked in a worldwide release date for its upcoming sci-fi action RPG EXODUS. The game will launch on April 7, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The announcement came during Gamescom Opening Night Live alongside a new cinematic gameplay trailer that puts the spotlight on one of Jun Aslan’s companions.
The trailer further introduces Salt, an Awakened octopus mercenary and bounty hunter who joins Jun’s crew. Piloting a specialized combat mech, Salt specializes in long-range sniping, quick evasive movement, and ink-like smokescreens that disorient enemies. The footage frames her as a hardened survivor who fights alongside Jun not only to stay alive but to protect the idea of home.
Another companion, Emrys, also receives attention. A member of the Deva, an enigmatic Celestial species defined by plural consciousness, Emrys fills a support role. In combat Emrys launches Remnant Orbs that drain and weaken enemies while channeling that stolen power back to Jun as protection.
EXODUS is a single-player, third-person action RPG set roughly 40,000 years in the future. Players control Jun Aslan, a salvager on the human homeworld of Lidon who becomes a Traveler. Humanity faces extinction from the Rot, a Celestial virus that degrades technology and life-support systems. Jun must travel the Centauri Cluster, explore ancient ruins, battle Celestial forces and rival human factions, and recover powerful Remnants that could give humanity a fighting chance.
A central narrative device is time dilation. Interstellar travel means that days or weeks for Jun can equal years or decades back on Lidon. Choices made in the field reshape the world players return to, creating personal and societal consequences that evolve across the story.
Archetype Entertainment was founded by veterans of BioWare and other major studios and operates under Wizards of the Coast. The project has drawn frequent comparisons to Mass Effect for its crew-based structure, moral decision-making, and focus on a colorful cast of companions. Matthew McConaughey voices the mysterious space cowboy C.C. Orlev, one of several supporting characters already revealed.
Archetype has introduced a wishlist milestone system as a thank-you to players following the game. EXODUS has already passed 500,000 wishlists, unlocking the first set of rewards: a Celestial Star Map decoration for the in-game apartment, a batch of new concept art, and the music track "Elegy for a Forgotten World." Future milestones are expected to unlock additional cosmetics, a Salt companion story cinematic, and more music.
The April 7, 2027 date gives the studio a clear target after years of development and gradual reveals. With Salt and Emrys now more fully introduced and the core fantasy of time-dilated spacefaring and crew-based combat on display, EXODUS continues to position itself as a major single-player sci-fi RPG for the following year.
