Toki was a shoot 'em up arcade with platformer elements that was developed and published by TAD Corporation back in 1989. In the game, players took control of Toki, a tribesman that is turned into a gorilla by an evil shaman, and has to save the tribe's beautiful princess Miho.
Like
Super Mario Bros., as well as most platformers of the time, Toki doesn't really have a deep story and is more about gameplay rather than plot. Armed with a few upgrades that Toki find along the way, players will traverse an island full of varied levels in order to get to the shaman and rescue the princess; occasionally running into giant boss fights.
A remade version of Toki was announced earlier this year and will be coming out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The enhanced version of the classic platformer arcade features some beautiful hand-drawn graphics and the same gameplay elements that made the original a classic, and today we get a new gameplay trailer for Toki that shows off some of the beautiful levels players will find when the game releases on the
22nd of November in Europe, and on the
4th of December in the US.
