Boss Key’s new free-to-play battle royale game Radical Heights has officially launched on PC today. The game is in what the studio calls “X-TREME” Early Access, meaning it’s not fully-finished quite yet. In fact, it’s actually pretty unpolished at the moment, but the purpose of Early Access is so players help shape the development of the final game with their feedback. And there’s literally no cost to you for playing, unless you purchase the Founder’s Pack.

Radical Heights puts a unique spin on the battle royale genre, and not just with its vibrant ‘80s style. The game is themed around a murderous game show where you and a handful of other players are dropped into a dome and must fight til the death. As part of the “game show” there are various games and events scattered around the map that can help you earn cash or other rewards to help with your survival not just in the current match, but in future matches as well. Unlike most other battle royale games, which restart from scratch after every match, Radical Heights allows you to deposit money into an ATM mid-match which you can then withdraw from in another match in the future. With some concerned this could upset the balance of matches in favor of those who play a lot and have tons of cash stored in their ATM, Boss Key assured it’s not as easy as it seems and that it’s definitely a “risk versus reward”decision

“You’re in-game cash wallet always starts at $0 when you enter the match (for every player),” Boss Key explained. “Taking out cash takes time and effort, leaving you vulnerable while you do so. Simply put: this leaves you very vulnerable… you can get shot in the back!"

As mentioned, Radical Heights is free-to-play, but there are microtransactions that allow you to purchase only cosmetic items for real money. A Founder’s Pack is available for $14.99 which offers an assortment of cosmetic items as well as Rad Gems to “buy some chic gear in your Prize Room.” The Founder’s Pack also originally contained a 10% Cash Boost in-game, but Boss Key removed that following player feedback and concerns it would make the game pay-to-win.

So if you’re bored of Fortnite or PUBG, hop in to Radical Heights, now available on Steam, and let us know what you think of the latest battle royale game.
