Looking for some new games to play in the New Year? Sony has announced the first batch of PlayStation Plus games for 2025.
Anyone subscribed to PS Plus will be able to download Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe for free beginning on January 7, 2025.
Developed by Rocksteady Studios, creators of the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is an action-adventure third-person shooter featuring DC's ultimate band of misfits. The game is set five years after the events of Arkham Knight and follows the titular villain team on a mission to Metropolis to stop the alien invader Brainiac and kill the Justice League who have been brainwashed and fallen under his influence.
The open-world game supports up to four-player co-op with a roster of eight playable characters: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, the Joker, Mrs. Freeze, Lawless, and Deathstroke. Each character features their own unique moveset, including melee combat style and traversal method.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had all the makings of a blockbuster title — and award-winning studio and an incredibly popular DC franchise — but the game launched to just average reviews. It was described as a mediocre looter shooter with a repetitive gameplay loop and frustrating live service mechanics. It admittedly probably wasn't worth the $70 it cost at launch, but it's definitely not as bad as the initial reception would have you believe. For the price of "free" with PlayStation Plus, it's probably worth a download.
If Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League isn't your cup of tea, January's lineup also includes Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. This is a remaster of the beloved 2010 racing game from Criterion Games and Electronic Arts that was released during the original game's 10th anniversary. It features enhanced visuals, such as higher resolution car models, cross-platform play for multiplayer, and includes all previously released main DLC.
The third free game for PS Plus in January is The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. Released in 2022, this is an "expanded re-imagining" of the critically acclaimed, award-winning indie game from 2013. In this first-person exploration game, you play as Stanley, an office worker who discovers that all of his co-workers have mysteriously vanished and sets off to find them. The Ultra Deluxe edition expands upon the original game with new content, new choices to make, and new secrets to discover, as well as a larger labyrinth to explore.
All three of these games will be available for PlayStation Plus members to download from January 7th through February 3rd, 2025. As a quick reminder, you have until next Tuesday to download December's free PS Plus games: It Take Two, Aliens: Dark Descent, and Temtem.
