After quietly changing the release window of
Days Gone from 2018 to 2019 on the official PlayStation
product page, Sony has officially confirmed the game’s delay.
After an inquiry by US Gamer, a Sony spokesperson confirmed,
“Days Gone will now be releasing in 2019 and we will keep you updated on the launch date." No reason was given for the delay.
Days Gone is being developed by Sony Bend as an exclusive for the PlayStation 4. It was revealed at Sony’s E3 2016 press conference and has been shown off numerous times at events since then. The impressive-looking post-apocalyptic, open-world zombie-action title appeared to be making steady progress, but apparently it’s not quite ready yet.
It’ll be interesting to see how this delay affects Sony’s other post-apocalyptic blockbuster
The Last of Us 2, which has not yet received a release window from developer Naughty Dog. In my own head's timeline,
Days Gone would've released in 2018, paving the way for
TLoU 2 in 2019. With
Days Gone now delayed until 2019, does this mean
The Last of Us is even further away than anticipated? Is
Days Gone simply not ready for a release this year or is Sony trying to fill a gap because
TLoU 2 is nowhere near ready?
