Sony Files Patent For A DUALSHOCK Controller With Two Additional Buttons

According to a new patent filed by Sony, a brand-new DualShock controller — which could easily be assumed to be the PlayStation 5's controller — features two additional buttons.

A new patent filed by Sony may have given us our first unofficial look at the PlayStation 5's DualShock 5 controller, and what's even more interesting is that, for the first time since the DualShock analog for the PlayStation 1, it may be adding a few extra buttons.

Granted, every controller has added something different — like the DualShock 3's clickable analog sticks or the DualShock 4's Share button and touchpad — but this time these could well be two extra buttons that could allow players to customise the way they play.

According to the patent, these two extra buttons would be on the back of the controller, which suggests that Sony could be planning on adding something like the DualShock 4's recently announced Back Button Attachment to the PlayStation 5's official controller.

Just last month, Sony also filed a patent that gave us an idea of what the DualShock 5 could look like, but said ptent didn't feature any extra buttons like this new patent is revealing.

It is worth mentioning that companies file patents all the time and these patents — more often than not — end up being scrapped by the developers, so we can speculate all we want about what these filed patents mean for the yet-to-be-revealed PlayStation 5, but this is in no way confirmation that we are, indeed, looking at a final product.
