SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Creator & Movie Writer Comment On The Backlash Against The Film's Poster

The first poster for Paramount Pictures' upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie was released earlier this week and, due to its realistic redesign of the titular speedster, was met with quite a bit of backlash. Another poster later surfaced online which, again, gave us a look at the odd redesign.
One of the film's writers recently took to social media to comment on the backlash. Patrick Casey, who wrote the film alongside Josh Miller and Oren Uziel, posted to Twitter (@Pat_Kc) a blunt "Everybody relax." Which seems to imply that the design isn't quite as off-the-wall as we're all picturing.
Though Yuji Naka, who served as the main programmer of the original Sonic The Hedgehog game as well as many sequels, also took to Twitter (@nakayuji) to express concern for the project - given the reception. Roughly translated; Naka's tweet reads as such: "From the comments here, it looks like it’s very badly received. I wonder if the movie is actually good when you watch it. I see many movies based on Anime or games are unpopular. I wonder why that happens…"
One creative seems to agree with the backlash to an extent, the other disagrees, however they both seem to think that we shouldn't judge the design just yet - but wait for an actual, unshrouded reveal. What do you think of their statements? What are your thoughts on the redesign?
