Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi series has been a tremendous success, both critically and commercially, for publisher Electronic Arts. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

During EA's latest Investor Day presentation, the company confirmed that the next installment in the Star Wars Jedi series will be its last. EA's president of entertainment and technology, Laura Miel, confirmed that the Respawn is currently working on the "final chapter" of Cal Kestis' saga.

“We have delivered some of the highest quality and best-selling Star Wars games of all-time, with over $5 billion in net bookings,” Miel said. “This impressive track record includes of course the Star Wars Jedi games, where over 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with Cal Kestis and his arc of becoming a powerful Jedi. Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players.”

While this news may surprise fans, Stig Asmussen, the director of 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, previously told IGN that he envisioned the series as a trilogy.

“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” he told IGN last year prior to the release of Jedi: Survivor“How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game? We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that. And there’s ideas of what we could do beyond that as well.”

Asmussen left Respawn last year and has since formed his own studio, Giant Skull. He was joined by Jon Carr, who previously worked as the technical director on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

We've sort of known that Respawn was working on a third Star Wars Jedi for a while now. Cal Kestis actor Cameron Monaghan told fans last October, "We're in the process of [making it] right now." EA also confirmed production in February of this year when it shared a projects update in the aftermath of layoffs at the company.

Released in 2019, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a much-needed win for Electronic Arts which had really struggled to produce a hit Star Wars game. The story was set five years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and followed Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis — one of the few remaining Jedi — as he becomes a target of the Galactic Empire and is hunted by the Imperial Inquisitors while also trying to complete his training. The game was a hit with critics and fans alike, receiving praise for its combat mechanics, story and characters, and acting performances. It sold over 10 million units by 2020.

In April 2023, EA released its sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Set five years after the events of the previous game, the story continued the adventure of young Jedi Knight Cal Kestis as he and his allies continue in their struggle to survive against the tyranny of the Galactic Empire.

Aside from confirmation that a third game is in the works, not much else has been revealed. There's no tentative release date or any sort of story details as of yet.
