Respawn Entertainment has released a new five minute video highlighting gameplay from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor running on the PlayStation 4 Pro console. The new footage arrives just as the game is set to make its last-gen console debut next week.
A sequel to 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was initially released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC last year. On September 17th, the game will make its last-gen console debut, releasing for the PS4 Pro, PS4, Xbox One X, and Xbox One.
The five-minute video highlights Jedi Knight Cal Kestis' latest adventures as he faces off against the Empire's forces across the galaxy. It gives us a good sense of how the game will look and run on these older consoles. And, to be honest, it actually looks like it holds up well — at least on the PS4 Pro.
Naturally, some sacrifices have had to be made to get Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to run smoothly on last-gen hardware. According to developer Respawn, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor targets 1080p 30FPS on PS4 Pro, 1440p 30FPS on Xbox One X, 900p 30FPS for PS4, and 720p 30FPS on Xbox One.
In this five-minute showcase, Jedi Knight Cal Kestis faces off against the Empire’s forces in the bowels of Coruscant, navigates the treacherous mountain paths and Shattered Moon of Koboh, and weathers the desert sands of Jedha with Nightsister Merrin by his side.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 17th. It will cost $49.99. Anyone who pre-orders ahead of launch will receive free cosmetic items including the Hermit Cosmetic (inspired by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi™), Hermit Lightsaber Set, and Combustion Blaster Set.
The impending release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has been met with mixed response. On one hand, those who have yet to upgrade to current-gen consoles can finally play one of the best Star Wars action-adventure games. Others joke that their PS4 is going to sound like a jet engine as it tries to run the game.
There's also the perception that if Star Wars Jedi: Survivor can run on last-gen consoles and look as good as it does in the video above, then how many current PS5 and Xbox Series X|S games have actually taken advantage of the improved current-gen hardware?
