Due to the current legislation in Belgium and the Netherlands in relation to microtransactions, 2K has been forced to include modifications in this section of the NBA 2K saga.
While Belgium passed a law that equated the loot boxes with gambles, the Netherlands also declared that these loot boxes are equivalent to these games of chance.
According to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, on the NBA 2K website, the development team has had to eliminate the option to buy My NBA 2K18 packages - the equivalent of the loot boxes in the NBA 2K saga - in Belgium. On the other hand, in the Netherlands, players will not be able to access Auction House, a function that allows players to buy and sell.
Of course, 2K has expressed disagreement. It has asked players who do not agree to "communicate with the representative" of his government and "communicate his/her opinion".
On a positive note, NBA 2K19 will arrive to Switch, PC, PS4 and Xbox One on September 11, 2018 although players who purchase the Anniversary Edition will be able to access the game on the 7th of that same month. At the moment, it is unknown how these measures will affect the next installment of the saga.
