NBA 2K19 has been increasing their presence across various social media platforms to promote the upcoming installment of the highly-acclaimed basketball simulation title. In the latest trailer, they dive into a glimpse at the new storyline for the
MyCAREER mode, arguably its most played, and also the game mode that ties into their competitive eSports league,
The NBA 2K League.
MyCAREER allows players the choice to fully customize their character, and can even use a face scan to get a fairly decent representation of themselves in the game, if they so choose. They then must start their character with a poor rating as a rookie, and go through the trials and tribulations of rising in the NBA, from "Rookie" to "Superstar." Earning sponsorships, winning awards, and everything inbetween gives you currency that goes towards upgrading different statistics, such as speed, 3-point shooting, or dunking. Higher your rating, the easier it will be to score, or defend. All of this of course is single player, meaning all interactions with gameplay are against the computer.
Once someone is happy enough with their character's rating, they can take him to MyLEAGUE Online, where they can actually compete for money, compete in 5 on 5 with 9 other people around the world and prove that they have enough skills to join the
NBA 2K League, the competitive eSports league with an official NBA-affiliation with 21 NBA teams. Players good enough to make a professional eSports team don't actually use their own MyPlayer, but instead pick and use players from specific archetypes to keep ratings even.
Here's a trailer that gives a sneak peek at what's in store for the storyline in MyCAREER for this year's release of
NBA 2K19:
NBA 2K19 will be released on
September 11th,
2018, and available on Windows PC, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
