With Masters of the Universe hitting theaters this week, Epic Games has just announced a new collaboration with the franchise that will bring He-Man, She-Ra, and Skeletor to the battle royale game.
While we're still not entirely sure what the collaboration will consist of, we do know outfits inspired by these three characters will be available in Fortnite Shop beginning Saturday, June 6th. We assume there will be other cosmetics based on he franchise, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sword of Power created as a pickaxe or something.
The collaboration arrives just as Masters of the Universe arrived in theaters in the UK today. The film is scheduled to release in theaters across the U.S. on Friday, June 5th.
If this collaboration is like others, all of the Masters of the Universe cosmetics will be available as a bundle, usually at a discounted rate at first. These bundles typically include the character outfits along with other cosmetics such as pickaxes, backbling, gliders, emotes, and more. As you can tell from the video above, one of the emotes is based on the iconic 2005 "HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA" meme.
While this is the first time we're getting Masters of the Universe themed cosmetics in Fortnite, it's actually not the first time Mattel has partnered with Epic Games. Last year, Mattel launched a Masters of the Universe: He-Man Heroes Fortnite Island, a dynamic collectible role-playing game (RPG) featuring the legendary characters of Eternia.
"Masters of the Universe: He-Man Heroes invites players to begin their journey with a single hero and fight their way through increasingly difficult zones filled with opponents," the Island's description reads. "Key features include collecting Shards of Eternia to summon new heroes, building powerful teams of up to four iconic characters, engaging in combat, and boosting hero power to take on greater challenges across Eternia."
As for the Masters of the Universe movie, initial reviews have been positive. With embargoes lifting earlier this week, the movie currently sits at a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. The live-action reboot of the beloved '80s animated series has been described as a thrilling and silly blockbuster action flick with plenty of humor and nostalgic references.
In addition to the collaboration, Fortnite players also have a new season to look forward to. Chapter 7 Season 3, titled "Runners," launches on Saturday, June 6th, following the "Shattered" live event on June 5th
