Just a couple of days ago, we reported on the upcoming XCOM 2: The Collection video game that's set to hit the Nintendo Switch on May 29th — find out more on that here.
Now XCOM 2 itself is available for free on Xbox One and PC for a limited time. The turn-based tactical combat game originally released all the way back in 2016 but is quite acclaimed and remains a classic to this day.
From a traditional top-down isometric view, the player serves as the commander of the XCOM military organisation which has been reduced to a resistance force and is up against the ongoing alien occupation of Earth. You would issue commands to a squad of human soldiers in order to strategically eliminate the horde of aliens that are present on any given level.
From now until April 29th, XCOM 2 is playable for free on Xbox One (via @2K). The PC version is specifically free-to-play through Steam. That will be playable for free until April 30th. Unfortunately, this offer doesn't seem apply to the PlayStation 4 for whatever reason.
The XCOM® 2 Collection includes the award-winning strategy game XCOM 2, four DLC packs (Resistance Warrior Pack, Anarchy’s Children, Alien Hunters, Shen’s Last Gift) and the War of the Chosen expansion all in one package. Activate any of the additional content (DLCs and the Expansion) or just play the base game.
XCOM 2 Collection will release for the Nintendo Switch on the May 29th, 2020.
