FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: Square Enix Confirms That Multiplayer Will Be Region-Locked

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is one of the many Final Fantasy games that Square Enix announced would be re-released. The announcement was made in 2018, and Crystal Chronicles is actually the last one to finally become available.

Many players are excited to finally be able to play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, since thise was a game that only released for the Nintendo GameGube, and has not been re-released sicne its original launch all the way back in 2003; new information, however, has disappointed fans who have been eagerly waiting for this remaster.

Just last month, for instance, it was officially revealed that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will not be supporting neither offline nor local multiplayer, which is a huge slap in the face of players; particularly troublesome, since the original game is actually a co-op title.

The fact that neither offline nor local multiplayer are supported by the game, shouldn't really be a big deal in this day and age. Square Enix did reassure players that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition does include online multiplayer; no problem, right? Wrong.

It has been officially confirmed — and this will likely disappoint players even more — that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will not only not support offline and local multiplayer, but that its online mode will also be region-locked; meaning that players will only be able to play with those in the same, well, region.

Players who may want to play with friends that don't live in the same country as them, will have to make sure if their region still matches those dictated by the game. Again, this is unbearably annoying for a game that is best enjoyed when played with other people.

Region-locking a game in this day and age, particularly in 2020 — which is the year in which online multiplayer should be encouraged by developers — is probably the final nail on the game's coffin. Granted, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition can be played in single player, but the original game's main selling point was its co-op component.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is releasing in just two more days, and Square Enix has really made it difficult for players to even be excited about this game any more — which is quite the feat, since it was arguably the Final Fantasy title that most players were excited to see being re-released.

For those of you wondering, players who want to play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition online will need to have a PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Switch Online subscription; this may be obvious information to some, but I just felt like rubbing some more salt into the wound Square Enix already inflicted.

FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition is an enchanting action RPG that follows a young group, known as the Crystal Caravans, as they embark on an epic journey to search for myrrh, a precious and rare liquid needed to cleanse and maintain a crystal protecting their world from the deadly gas, miasma.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is expected to release for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on Thursday the 27th of August.
