Last month Nintendo surprised fans of The Legend of Zelda series by announcing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which is an action-adventure hack and slash title that will serve as a prequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is in the series' canon, and the main selling point here is the fact that it will be taking place 100 years before the events seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Furthermore, this upcoming title will be focusing on Hyrule's Champions and the events that led to their untimely demise.
In a recent interview during this year's Tokyo Game Show, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Producers Yosuke Hayashi and Masaki Furusawa, and Director Ryota Matsushita revealed some interesting details about the development process, including the fact that they're glad the game didn't leak before they officially unveiled it.
"We know that many people treasure the experiences they’ve had with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We're confident that this game will satisfy those players, so we really hope you all look forward to the game launching soon," revealed Matsushita.
Furusawa adds to this by revealing that he worked on the original Hyrule Warriors, but this time around they worked very closely with the "Zelda team," which is something that didn't really happen during the previous game's development process.
"Since this game takes place 100 years before Breath of the Wild, I think it's one moving part of a greater whole. We worked very closely with the Zelda team; they supervised all of our work," Furusawa said.
He then added: "I worked on the first Hyrule Warriors title, but compared to that, the Zelda team was over 100 times more involved this time around... I can't wait for players to try it out."
Things get even more interesting when Producer Yosuke Hayashi reveals that they were approached by The Legend of Zelda series Producer Eiji Aonuma to work on a new Hyrule Warriors, especially since the development team thought they were done making Hyrule Warriors games.
"We started development on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity after Eiji Aonuma of Nintendo approached us. We thought we were done with Hyrule Warriors games, at least for the time being. The first game was like a celebration of Zelda and was full of characters from throughout the series... I hope we can make more interesting games like this in the future."
What's more, Hayashi is actually quite glad that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was not leaked before they made the announcement official, which fans of The Legend of Zelda even more excited for the game.
"I am just so glad the game didn't leak! (Laughs) We really wanted it to be a surprise, so it was great to see everyone so excited by the announcement," Hayashi revealed.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is still a month and a half away from releasing, but it looks like it will not be disappointing fans, particularly those who have been itching to play anything related to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and since we still don't have any news regarding its sequel, a more action-oriented, and story centred prequel will do the job just fine.
