We may have some disappointing news for fans of the
Pokémon series, as Producer Junichi Masuda has recently revealed that Pokémon creatures missing from the Galar region Pokédex in
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield will not be available in the game.
"
We currently have no plans to make the Pokemon that are missing from the Galar Pokedex available in-game," revealed Masuda in a recent interview with Dutch website
InsideGamer.
"
This is an approach that we want to continue with in future Pokemon games. Up until now it hasn’t been possible to encounter every Pokemon in every game, so people had to transfer them from old games to the new game, by using Pokemon Bank for example."
According to Masuda, the reasoning behind this is to promote their upcoming Pokémon Home app, where players will be able to transfer their Pokémon from previous titles in the series; something that players could do for free via the Pokémon Bank.
"
We encourage people to use Pokemon Home to collect their Pokemon from old games. From there they might be able to take them to other games in the future. So take good care of your old Pokemon, because perhaps you can travel with them again in the future," added Masuda.
The fact that players won't even be able to catch every Pokémon without having to purchase the Pokémon Home app is pretty disappointing, and something that is already backfiring on Game Freak; with many fans of the series already voicing their discontent online.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be available for the Nintendo Switch on the 15th of November.
