A New F-ZERO Game Could Be On The Horizon, As Nintendo Seemingly Registered Social Media Account

Could it be that Nintendo is planning to revive the long-neglected, albeit never forgotten, F-Zero series? Some fans seem to think this is the case, as the developer secures Twitter account for the franchise.

Yesterday we reported that a Twitter account for the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary had been registered by Nintendo of Japan. While it is difficult to confirm that this account was legitimate, all information seemed to point to it being real.

The Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary account was registered in March of this year — which is around the same time that rumours about remastered versions of the 3D Super Mario Bros. games started doing the rounds — and is one of the main reasons why fans are more inclined to believe this is legitimate.

Piggybacking of yesterday's news, comes some information that may make some fans of the F-Zero series quite happy, although it is best to take this information with a grain of salt, as it is as legitimate as the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Twitter account.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, Nintendo Japan has registered a Twitter account for the F-Zero series under the name of @FZeroJP, which is quite similar to the @SuperMario35th account that Nintendo allegedly registered. What's more, the alleged F-Zero Twitter account was also registered in March of this year.

This mysterious Twitter account has fans wondering whether Nintendo has decided to finally revive the long-neglected, albeit never forgotten, F-Zero series. In the past, series creator Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that he doesn't understand why players would want another F-Zero game.

"I certainly understand that people want a new F-Zero game," Miyamoto revealed during an interview with IGN all the way back in 2013; a week after Mario Kart 8 was announced for the Nintendo Wii U, to be more precise.

"I think where I struggle is that I don’t really have a good idea for what’s new that we could bring to F-Zero that would really turn it into a great game again. Certainly I can see how people looking at Mario Kart 8 could see, through the anti-gravity, a connection to F-Zero. But I don’t know, at this point, what direction we could go in with a new F-Zero," Miyamoto concluded.

That interview was 7 years ago, and it seemed to be the final nail on F-Zero's coffin, which is why fans of the series have gotten their hopes high for this F-Zero Twitter account suddenly, and allegedly being registered by Nintendo Japan. For further reference, the last entry in the series was released fore the GameCube in July of 2003.

If the rumours are true, a Nintendo Direct presentation will be streamed next Monday the 20th of July. Perhaps then Nintendo will finally give us some official information in regards to the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary, and maybe, just maybe, announced the F-Zero games that fans so desperately want. Fingers crossed.
