If you're a seasoned player, like myself, you may remember fondly LucasArts' iconic Monkey Island series of point and click video games. The Secret of the Monkey Island, first game in the long-running series, was released in 1990 for PC, although the series has been pretty much dead since.
The original The Secret of Monkey Island actually got a special edition in 2009, and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge also got the special edition treatment a year later; both games featuring enhanced graphics and soundtrack that made the games look better than ever.
Tales of the Monkey Island was technically the last game in the series, and that game was released in 2009, which is a solid 10 years since Escape from Monkey Island was released in the year 2000. Every game in the series has been well-received by fans and mainstream players, the only problem is that there just hasn't been a new game in over 10 years.
Today Limited Run Games has some great news for fans of the iconic LucasArts' Monkey Island series, as they have announced that they will be producing a franchise-spanning Monkey Island anthology box set for PC, as they celebrate the series' 30th anniversary.
According to the information revealed by the developer, this collection will be including the original The Secret of the Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - Special Edition, The Curse of Monkey Island, and The Secret of Monkey Island - Special Edition.
Limited Run Games has yet to reveal the official release date for The Secret of Monkey Island Anthology, but they have reassured players that it is expected to launch at some point in October of this year, so expect the developer to reveal even more information about this upcoming collection in the coming months.
Another thing that Limited Run Games has yet to confirm is the platforms this collection will be releasing on, so they still have a tonne of information to reveal, and we cannot wait to learn more about The Secret of Monkey Island Anthology.
Oddly enough, Escape from Monkey Island is nowhere to be seen, and neither is Tales of Monkey Island, so this anthology box set is only offering the first three entries in the series. With all that said, The Secret of Monkey Island Anthology is a great way to bring the series back to life, and fans are definitely going to appreciate it for what it is.
