Sony Entertainment Interactive and Bend Studio's Days Gone is a game that will see players exploring a post-apocalyptic open world full viscious zombie-like creatures and trying to survive whatever comes their way.

Days Gone follows the story of Deacon St. John, a broken character who has lost the love of his life in the events following the outbreak and — while this kind of scenario may sound familiar when it comes to this particular genre, in either movies or video games — Days Gone will be telling Deacon's story prior to the outbreak in the form of playable flashbacks.

Today, the official PlayStation website for Days Gone has released some new screenshot of Deacon and his wife Sarah, which are likely to be part of the game's flashbacks rather than the opening of the game a lá The Last of Us.

Fleshing out broken characters like Deacon or The Last of Us' Joel is always a great way to get players invested in the game, and fans will likely appreciate the time the game takes exploring Deacon's past.

Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the “safe” wilderness encampments.

Days Gone will be available for the PlayStation 4 on the 26th of April.
