Capcom's renaissance continues as the developer has yet another hit on their hands. Following the successful launches of
Monster Hunter: World (that has sold over 11 million copies since its debut in January 2018) and the reimagined
Resident Evil 2 (the remake has managed to sell an impressive 4 million units within its first month since launch in January),
Devil May Cry V is their latest best-seller.
As revealed by the company,
Devil May Cry V, which launched for PS4, Xbox One, and PC just two weeks ago, has already shipped more than 2 million copies globally. Considering that 2008's
Devil May Cry 4 sold 2.3 million copies until the end of its launch year and hit the 3 million mark in 2014, there's a big chance that
DMCV will be best-selling entry in the long-running series when it's all said and done.
Thanks to
DMCV's initial sales, the games in this series have cumulatively sold more than 19 million units since the first title was released back in 2001. While the
Resident Evil franchise as a whole has recently topped 90 million units sold, it's not really fair to compare those Capcom brands as the Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara-created zombie series consist of over 20 fully-fledged video games.
Given that
Devil May Cry V was the last major Capcom release in 2019 and we don't really know what the renowned Japanese developers are currently working on, it's safe to say that
Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and
Devil May Cry are the future of the producer and will return rather sooner than later.
