Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have shared the final trailer for A Minecraft Movie, in a final push to hype the upcoming live-action adaptation before its theatrical release next month.
Initial reaction to A Minecraft Movie has been mixed so far with many on the fence. This latest trailer pulls out all the stops, giving us our best look yet at how the beloved sandbox game has been adapted into a movie.
Minecraft, of course, is one of the biggest games in the world. The open-world sandbox game gives players the opportunity to express their creative freedom as they can build pretty much anything. That seems to be the crux of the film's theme which is expressed through a story in which a group of strangers are pulled into the Overworld and embark on an adventure to save it from the invading forces of the Nether.
The movie stars Jack Black as the iconic Steve, the game's recognizable mascot. In the film, Steve is an expert crafter and the guy who must train this group of strangers to master the ways of the Overworld.
Starring alongside him are Emma Myers (“Wednesday”), Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple”), Sebastian Hansen (“Just Mercy, “Lisey’s Story”), and Jennifer Coolidge. Oscar nominee Hess (“Ninety-Five Senses,” “Nacho Libre”) directed the movie from a screenplay by Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer and Neil Widener & Gavin James and Chris Galletta, story by Allison Schroeder and Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer, based on the Minecraft video game.
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
The adventure begins when A Minecraft Movie arrives in theaters on April 4th. Tickets for the film are now available. Do you plan on seeing the film in theaters?
