Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios announced Project CARS 3 in December of 2018, revealing that the game was being developed for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While project was announced, the developers didn't really give players an estimated release date.
A few weeks after the announcement was made, Slightly Mad Studios revealed that Project CARS 3 was not going to be a traditional Project CARS title, as they were actually fixed on making this new title a spiritual successor to the Need for Speed: Shift series.
Some of you will remember that Slightly Mad Studios was the developer that worked on the Need for Speed: Shift series before they parted ways with Electronic Arts, so this was rather fitting, but there was also something that had fans worried about the studios' statement.
The Project CARS series is a more realistic take on racing video games, and the developers at Slightly Mad Studios openly revealing that the third entry would be a spiritual successor to Need for Speed: Shift — a more arcade-style-oriented racing series — didn't bode well with most fans.
Slightly Mad Studios and publisher Bandai Namco have been revealing a bunch of information about Project CARS 3, and this new game truly is the "Need for Speed: Shift 3" that the developer never got to make under Electronic Arts' wing, but players have slowly warmed up to the fact that this is a different game now.
For those of you who are still excited to play Project CARS 3, we hve some great news, as the game has finally become available today, and Bandai Namco has shared a high-octane trailer to get players ready to begin their ultimate driver journey; it may not be the Project CARS they wanted, but the game still looks pretty awesome in its own right.
