CEO and Chief Designer of Snapshot Games Julian Gollop has officially announced that the young developer is delaying the release of
Phoenix Point by three months, to September 2019.
Phoenix in the Sofia-based studio's second turn-based tactics video game that will be reportedly possessing all of the depth, mystique and fair challenge you would expect from an
X-COM spiritual successor.
"
I realize this is going to be disappointing news for a lot of people, and I’m really sorry about it," Gollop said in a special video that you can check out down below. "
Even though the game is on track to be content complete much sooner, the extra time will give us the chance to test and polish the gameplay much more extensively, and I think that the end result will be well worth it," he added.
Considering that Snapshot is trying to incorporate design elements from
Crusader Kings 2 and
Civilization V into their game to create a grander vision of world strategy while combining it with tense, third-person action of
Enemy Unknown, it's understandable that the scale of this ambitious title might be something beyond their scope, but there's hope the studio will use that additional time wisely.
In other news, Snapshot's next backer release will be out in March with a large amount of new content.
The human population has been decimated. Survivors gather in isolated havens spread throughout the world. A few factions control most of the havens and resources, but they have radically contrasting ideologies and guard deep secrets. The Phoenix Project is a worldwide organization designed to be activated when the world is in peril. You control one cell, gathering some of the world’s best scientists, engineers and soldiers. After your cell is activated, you realize that you have no contact with any other cells. You need to find out what happened to them.
Phoenix Point is coming to Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS in September.
