Squadron 42, Star Citizen's solo campaign was first announced in 2014 as a spiritual successor to the Wing Commander series and older Star Wars video games. Finally, after a long strike of delays, Cloud Imperium Games has revealed when to expect the single-player mode to launch - the second half of 2020, when Squadron 42's official beta is supposed to start, courtesy of businessman Clive Ian Calder.

Yes, Cloud Imperium has received a whopping $46 million investment from record producer Clive Calder, making Star Citizen's budget of $211 million (at the time of this writing) even more bloated. With over $250 million raised, Star Citizen is dangerously close to beating the approximate production costs of the most expensive video game of all time, Grand Theft Auto V with its $265 million budget.

While Cloud Imperium's business practices are, for the lack of a better word, questionable, there's no doubt that the company has managed to assemble an impressive cast that will star in Squadron 42, including characters played by Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour), Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Andy Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), and even Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One).

If you want to be one of the first to experience Squadron 42's impressive features when it finally launches in a couple of years, you can pre-order the game right now for $45 on the game's website.
